Bossing It…

Flashback to July and photographing Bruce Springsteen performing during British Summertime Hyde Park at Hyde Park in London.

I posted the above selfie on Instagram and the first comment was..

150-600! You like it ??

My reply sums up my feelings on this lens.

It might be a slow aperture but its Auto-Focus, Sharpness and Optical Stabilisation is so much better than the 100-400 that it (sort of) makes up for that.

I’m not sure it is as useful as the 100-400 but on days it is needed (like this one and those mentioned), it is phenomenal, just take a look at this screenshot of the meta data from one of the images below.

900mm equivalent !(I know this is a fact of the crop sensor and I am being a little silly here but it still makes me smile every time I see that figure).

So is the aperture a problem? It can be for indoor events obviously, although I have used it a political party conferences I am 50/50 if I will do so again but when the light is right and the need is to stop down a bit (the key is in the need to stop down), it is not.

Then there is the stabilisation. I have produced sharp images at full zoom at 1/250th (I am sure there are people that will say they have shot at slower but these were images I was happy with to use for print). I personally struggle at that shutter speed with the 100-400!

The bottom line with this lens is, at the right time on the right job, this lens is great. Right tools for the right job as my dad used to say.

Anyway, I have rambled on for enough so here are some images of Da Boss taken with this lens on the X-H2S body.

I look forward to your thoughts and comments.
