2023 Round Up Pt.1 : Kermode

It’s that time of year when photographers put together their best bits of the year past…

Instead of a selection from everything I have done, I am going to (try) and focus on just a few aspects of my year.

This first post focuses on my time photographing Mark Kermode’s monthly show at the BFI.

Some of these images I have shared previously on my instagram, some I have not….

Some very memorable guests and, for me, some very memorable conversations (for example a in depth “arty” conversation with Timothy Spall on the pains and joys of painting (he is now a serious artist with a few major exhibitions under his belt following playing Turner).

This post would not be complete without an image of Mark and a poster of his favourite film, The Exorcist. This image was not taken at the BFI, but at Frightfest where he gave a very emotional introduction to a screening of the 50th Anniversary edition following the passing of his friend and director of the film, William Friedkin.

Mark Kermode photographed introducing The Exorcist (The Version you have never seen before) during the Pigeon Shrine Frightfest 2023 at Cineworld Leicester Square in London, UK on 28 August 2023 . Picture by Julie Edwards.

There will be a few more 2023 round-up posts to follow over the next few days.

Happy New Year to you all..

J xx
