Self Portrait – Day 5 of 7

Friday and we are getting to the business end of the challenge. I had a little more time today, I also had left the lights out from the day before as the plan was to build on that. (In case you have not noticed, I decided after the first 2 days to also show the way a portrait can be built in the same location with easy changes to the lighting).

Today all I added was a large reflector to use as the main light source, reflecting the daylight from the window, keeping the flash/dish just to add a little shape / shadow across the face.

BTS: Daylight reflector added. Flash for intrest

Same space, same pose, same kit.

I switched back to triggering the camera with the phone for this as I needed to be able to preview the exposure and adjust the (manual) shutter speed plus ISO to get the exposure correct. The flash was still set to TTL at -0.3.

The eagle eyed of you might notice that the aspect ratio of the image is back to that of the first couple of images. Thats because Tuesday night I shot a premiere, using the camera to take a wide “family” image, for which I experimented using an aspect ratio that matched the branding. I forgot to change it back yesterday morning and, as these are un-edited jpgs, thats what I used in yesterdays image.

The office is quite a tight space but with a little thought, there are always options!

Finding the time to do these has been tricky and a little tedious at times, but I guess that is the point of a challenge – otherwise it is not a challenge! (I think that is readable on my face!)

Anyway – back to the edit thats on the screen – 70 marketing images for a client.

More tomorrow.
